Harvard Sangeet

As part of Harvard Sangeet's new Artist-in-Profile project, we will focus every month on a prominent musical personality and his or her contribution to the musical world. Each profile will highlight the artist's musical education, most notable accolades, and current artistic pursuits. The profile will also feature links to samples of the artist's works.

The Artist-in-Profile for the month of April is S. Shashank.

Shashank is a virtuosic Indian Classical bamboo flautist. Originally trained in Carnatic music, he is a very versatile artist, known for his ability to make the flute sing. Under the guidance of his father, Shashank taught himself to play flute and soon garnered acclaim as a child prodigy. He began performing his uniquely developed style at the age of 12, and has been expanding the horizons of the flute since. He studies Hindustani music with Pandit Jasraj and has frequently performed Jugalbandhi with a variety of Hindustani artists. He has over 30 CDs to his name.
